Carved wooden box, made for my father last yearish. The design is an interpretation of the Pattern of Amber, from a book series we (my dad & I) both have a longstanding appreciation for: The Chronicles of Amber, by Roger Zelazny. Both the top and bottom of the box started out as a solid piece of wood (pine or douglas fir), reclaimed from remodeling in my house. Sometimes boxes like this split along the grain but as far as I know this one hasn’t yet. I used a light coat of stain to bring out the grain contrast.
